People Flying When They Have A Wheelchair

When you are flying on an airplane for the first time, it can be a little overwhelming. Add to it the need for assistance with your wheelchair, and you may feel even worse. Thankfully today all major airlines have assistance available to you, so you don’t have to feel nervous about the trip you are about to make.

When you are flying it is important to plan ahead. This will help you have a less stressful trip. Flying is the quickest way to travel and you shouldn’t avoid it because you are nervous.

In the past you used to have to book your flight a special way, but today you can do it online and often get the best rates that way. Before placing any orders online, however, you should select that you need special assistance. Then specify that you have a wheelchair so the airline knows.

Also, before you pay for it, if you have never flown with the airline before it is always good to call the airline first and see what their procedures are. You can verify with them that you are ordering your ticket the correct way online to make certain that you get the assistance you need with your wheelchair and for your flight. If they tell you that you did everything fine, you can then book the flight and are good to go.

You should also ask about boarding procedures for wheelchair flight before booking. Check what seating is available for the flight. You will have a much easier time flying at the front of the plane then if you have to go past everyone and go down the far aisle.

Even better than that is to fly first class. First class allows you to have more space, and it will be a much more enjoyable and comfortable ride. However, this option is very unachievable for most people. One option is to buy a coach ticket and then upgrade to first class if there are any empty seats on the flight.

Also check the seats of the plane. Look at the layout and see how many people will be sitting next to you. You might consider looking in to an airline that has only two seats per row so you don’t have to worry about someone climbing over you and your companion, or even consider buying an extra seat if there are three seats per row.
